Having lived on the island for 7 years and visited for 30, I am familiar with the Greek language, and have many friends and contacts there. Greece is a very safe destination and I love to share its magic with everyone.

‘Market day’ in Ayvalik Turkey, an hour or so by ferry, is a chance to visit Asia and have a very exotic experience (Turkey is shown in the photo below behind the 12th Century castle of Molyvos which is a 5 km. walk from our seaside residence in Petra.)

The island offers the opportunity to experience the amazing healing waters set in traditional Turkish ‘hammams’.

It is not necessary to do the Nia workout in order to stay at the retreat and enjoy the rest of the activities with us. Also, if you are interested in arriving early or staying later in Greece, I can help you with details.

How to get there:

There are several options to fly to Lesvos (Mytilene in aviation terms)

The fastest from North America is to fly directly to Athens   (9 hours or so from Toronto) and then take a second flight to Mytilene ( about 50 minutes). If you take Olympic, the second flight is 40 % off and together they could add up to about $1200. CDN

Another way is to fly to one of the major hubs in Europe and take a flight directly to Mytilene from there. This usually ends up being cheaper but sometimes there is an overnight stopover going to or from the island. Places to research for this are London, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, Paris. I will add more as I discover others. Depending on the first destination, this could be anywhere from $800. and up. For some ideas check    www.lesvosisland.com/gettingthere.html

It is also possible to take a ferry from Pireaus, outside Athens, to Mytilene. There are now hovercrafts which take about 7 hours, or an overnight ferry is about 12 hours

GLORIOUS GREECE GETAWAY Update June 30th

Worried about flying to Greece on your own? Relax!  If you are flying out of Toronto airport then you can arrange to fly with Yoga Instructor Carol Prentice who has travelled the world and been to 18 different countries on her own!  You are sure to feel safe and secure flying around the world with her confidence and experience by your side.  Contact Carol at 905-380-2460 to discuss travel arrangments.

New to Yoga?  What style of Yoga will be taught? During the retreat Carol Prentice will be teaching a classical Hatha Yoga suitable for all levels (including beginners).  Classical Hatha Yoga involves breathing techniques, poses and postures, relaxation and meditation.  Every class is unique!  Some will be challenging while others will be restorative.  You will be able to work at your own pace.

Wondering about the trip to Turkey? It will be a memorable day as we leave early from the north end of the island to reach Mytilene and catch the ferry. About 1 ¼ hours of a picturesque voyage gets us to Ayvalik. We will spend the day shopping, many items being 1€. Everything from spices to belly dancing scarves are available. The people-watching is superb as the outlying gypsies and farmers make their way to the ‘market day’. Fortunately Didi’s friend Andreana and her Turkish husband have a ‘bistro’ near the water where we can gather.

Greek Dancing you ask… Didi can teach you some basic moves that will make it loads of fun to dance with the Greeks.

The Mineral Baths on the Gulf of Yera are spectacular. Lesvos is know for its healing waters and this excursion will be one of your best ‘story-tellers’.

The Captain’s Table Restaurant run by Didi’s close friends, Melinda and Theo, is where we will be enjoying our Welcome Dinner. They are well known for their delectable fresh fish, spicy eggplant dip, and shrimp saganaki. Yiayia’s recipe for tiropita (cheese pie) and killer bougatsa, are worth the trip alone.

REMEMBER…..the Glorious Greece Getaway is ONLY $1399 if you book before August 1st, 2010 and bring a friend!!! For lots more on Lesvos, visit Matt Barretts site www.lesvos.com

CHAKRA BALANCING WORKSHOP

This upcoming workshop focuses on the seven major energy centers in the body known as ‘chakras’ We will be learning more about the chakras, and how they are instrumental in keeping the mind and body healthy and balanced. Through discussion and activities we will explore the connections between our emotional experiences and chakra deficiencies and/or excesses. Following that we will look at healing approaches to balance the chakras and will participate in a unique movement series aimed at balancing the major chakra system. No prior movement experience or knowledge of the chakras is necessary.
